Nebraska 2nd Congressional District 2022 Questionnaire

Question 1

In February 2021 Congress re-introduced the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act as a federal effort aimed at stemming racial bias and providing for more independent oversight of police. While approved by Congress, the bill was blocked from passage in the Senate. One of the most notable sections of the Act calls to end qualified immunity for police officers.

Do you think the Justice in Policing Act should become law? Detail why, or why not.

Question 2

In September 2021 a 25-year veteran of the Capitol Police in Washington D.C. was charged with obstruction of justice for encouraging Capitol rioters from January 6th to hide evidence of their involvement. In the same year multiple officers from departments across the country were fired for their attendance in the January 6th Capitol riots

While the Justice in Policing Act has many changes and recommendations, one however, is not enhanced penalties for officers who break the law. Should federal level law enforcement officers face enhanced charges and sentencing for criminal actions?
